Tickets are now on sale for Wolf Alice’s special show at this year’s Q Awards. The North London indie-rockers have been on a world tour to support last year’s excellent Visions Of A Life, but will be back on home turf to perform a headline set after the ceremony at the Roundhouse, Camden, on Wednesday, 17 October. Support will come from raucous punk quintet Idles.
After a summer of festival appearances, this will be Wolf Alice’s first indoor show in the capital since a triumphant gig at Alexandra Palace in November 2017. “We’ll approach it with lots of energy and a sense of fun,” says singer Ellie Rowsell. Rowsell and her bandmates Theo Ellis, Joel Amey and Joff Oddie shouldn’t have any trouble finding their way to the venue. “Camden is where we rehearse, it’s where we do our meetings, it’s where we drink, it’s where our friends drink.”
Openers Idles are one of the country’s most exciting breakthrough bands with an exhilarating live show. The quintet’s new album, Joy As An Act Of Resistance, will be released on 31 August and they will embark on their own headline tour in October [Bristol SWX (16), London O2 Forum Kentish Town (18), Manchester O2 Ritz (19), Glasgow Queen Margaret Union (20), Dublin Whelan’s (22), Newcastle The Riverside (23), Leeds University Stylus (24), Nottingham Rock City (25), Birmingham O2 Institute (26), Brighton Concorde 2 (27), Oxford O2 Academy (29)].
Frontman Joe Talbot says that his group are used to winning crowds over. “People see us supporting and think, ‘Who the fuck are these fat guys shouting at us?’ But I talk them through the songs a bit more so that they get our vibe and it works. We treat every venue the same, we go in and give it everything. Expect nothing and you’ll get everything.”
